After a storm
After a storm, it's hard to know what you're looking at from the ground. A few missing shingles can be a quick repair. Lifted or creased shingles you can't see from the yard can let water in for months before a stain shows up on the ceiling. We check the roof and tell you what's damaged and what isn't.
You get our own estimate for the repair or replacement, which you're free to share with your insurance company if you decide to file a claim.
If a repair will do the job, we'll tell you. If the damage is widespread or your roof was already near the end of its life, we'll explain why a replacement may make more sense, and you decide.
We can tell you whether we think damage came from a storm and give you our own estimate of the work. We're roofers, not public adjusters. We don't negotiate or settle your claim, prepare it for you, or advise you on your coverage. That's between you and your insurance company. We will never offer to waive or cover your deductible.
Signs of storm damage
Check from the ground (never climb on a wet or damaged roof). If you spot any of these, request a quote.
Bare spots, torn tabs or exposed underlayment where shingles used to be.
High winds can break a shingle's seal and leave a crease line. It may look fine but can no longer keep water out.
Shingle pieces, granules or bits of flashing on the lawn or driveway after a storm.
Even if a branch has been removed, it can leave punctures or cracked decking behind.
Metal edges and chimney flashing that look lifted, dented or pulled away.
Drips, damp insulation or new stains after heavy rain mean water is already getting in.

Rhode Island weather
Between nor'easters, tropical storms that come up the coast and heavy winter snow, Rhode Island roofs take a beating.
Wind off Narragansett Bay and the South County shore can lift and peel shingles loose.
Wind-driven rain looks for any gap, especially at flashing around chimneys, walls and vents.
Snow that melts on a warm roof and refreezes at the cold eaves can back water up under the shingles.
Near the coast, salt spray is hard on exposed metal like flashing and fasteners.

No. Your deductible is part of your insurance policy, and offering to waive or absorb it can be illegal. We won't do it, and you should be cautious of any contractor who offers to.
That's your call. Many homeowners do both. Check your policy and your insurer's claim process. We can help you understand what's actually damaged and what a repair would involve.
It depends on how widespread the damage is and the age of your roof. Isolated damage can often be repaired. If damage covers large areas or the roof was already worn out, a replacement may make more sense. We'll explain the options and you decide.
Move valuables away from the leak, catch the water and take photos. Stay out of any room where the ceiling is sagging. Then request a quote and tell us it's urgent in the notes.
